Jamieson Ranch Double Lariat Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

$39.99
Napa Valley, California
PLCB Code# 47975

A super-sexy, seductive style of Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Double Lariat has sweet tannins, lush black cherry and a blackcurrant fruit, no hard edges and touches of chocolate and espresso in a complex, plump, plush style. This is irresistible wine and at this price point a no-brainer. Drink it over the next decade.
94 Points Wine Advocate

A crisp bouquet of orange zest marks the opening of this wine, an unexpected twist to the narrative of dried cranberry, blackberry and cloves. On the palate, this full-bodied wine offers ample weight and richness, before a wealth of dry tannins feature on the finish.”
92 Points Wine Enthusiast

Red-black fruit, oregano, sage, licorice. At this point the tannin is overpowering the fruit, so it is not very approachable.  It was better with aeration, but it may improve with more bottle age.

Michael Twelftree White Hut Shiraz 2011

$39.99
McLaren Vale, Australia
Chairman’s Selection
PLCB Code# 78085

Dark, dense and chewy, this offers a full-bodied mouthful of blackberry, dried blueberry, white pepper and licorice flavors that persist into a dense finish. Surprisingly well-packed for this generally light vintage. Best from 2015 through 2021.”
91 Points Wine Spectator, December 31, 2013

Bright purple. Intensely perfumed, spice-accented aromas of dark berries, bitter chocolate and violet. Offers expansive black and blue fruit flavors and an exotic floral pastille quality that builds in the glass. Rich but fresh and lively, with excellent finishing clarity and silky tannins adding shape. A notable success for this difficult vintage, and delicious right now.”
92 Points Vinous Media, July 2013

Tart-red-black fruit aromas with cilantro.  There is lots of ripe plum and black raspberry fruit with mild oak.  It is very well-balanced and drinkable now with mild tannins.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Parson’s Nose Shiraz has a pronounced nose of wild blueberries, crushed black plums and menthol with hints of cloves and anise. Open-textured, expressive and inviting, with pure blackberry and dark plum flavors, deftly shaded with earthy, spicy overtones. Comes together harmoniously and finishes gracefully. Drink now through 2018.–HS

Very dark ruby color.  There are blueberry and oak aromas.  The fruit is ripe, but not jammy, with licorice oak and medium body, and dusty tannins on the finish.  My only complaint was that the fruit was a little light in the mid-palate, although it improved with time.

Orin Swift Mannequin 2013

$39.99
California
PLCB Code# 49864

The 2013 Proprietary White Mannequin, which draws fruit from diverse regions of Northern California such as the Carneros Basin and the Sonoma Coast, is actually a blend of 76% Chardonnay, 8% Viognier, 6% Marsanne, 5% Grenache Blanc, 3% Muscat and 2% Roussanne. This is amazing wine, a gorgeous, full-throttle, honeyed wine with a light-gold color, oodles of tropical fruits including pineapple and mango, rose petal and floral notes, and beautifully integrated oak (aged in 40% new French oak on its lees for 11 months). This full-throttle wine is completely different and more individualistic than anything I’ve ever tasted. It is a magnificent, full-throttle, exuberant dry white to drink over the next 3-4 years. Dave Phinney, better known for his winery called Orin Swift, is one of the more creative young minds in all of the world’s winedom. He is doing things that are far beyond his modest age and deserves to be commended for the brilliant individuality/singularity of all of his efforts.

Full aromas of tropical fruit and butterscotch.  Melon and mango flavors with lactic and oak.  Oodles of body and nice acidity on the finish. This is a very big oaky Chardonnay that is made much more complex and viscous with the additional Rhone grape varieties.

Gigondas, Southern Rhone, France
Chairman’s Selection
PLCB Code# 78138

Inviting in feel, with polished edges around the core of blackberry and plum compote notes, underscored by dark anise and sweet spice accents on the finish. Silky in feel, though there’s good buried grip here. Exhibits freshness and purity. Drink now through 2022. 6,500 cases made.-JM
92 Points Wine Spectator 10/15

Darker in color than the Romane Machotte, the 2013 Gigondas Domaine Grand Romane comes from higher elevation parcels and is a blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre and 15% Syrah. It exhibits plenty of chocolate-laced dark fruits, earth and hints of minerality in its medium-bodied, rich, yet soft and sexy style. It will shine on release and evolve nicely through 2023.-JD
87-89 Points Wine Advocate 1/15

Bright violet color. Sexy aromas of cassis, cherry liqueur, fresh flowers and incense. Supple and pliant on the palate, but with juicy acidity giving spine to the deep black and blue fruit and floral pastille flavors. Becomes spicier and livelier with air, picking up a smoky nuance that carries through a long, sweet, youthfully tannic finish.
91-93 Points Vinous Media 5/15

Ripe black cherry and plum fruit green tannins minerals chocolate. Too harsh now and I am not certain that this will balance out with aging.

Cicchitti Malbec 2010

$13.99
Mendoza, Argentina
Chairman’s Selection
PLCB Code# 78101

The new releases begin with the 2010 Malbec, which spent 8 months in French and American oak. It offers up notes of earthy minerals, spice box, cherry cola, and assorted black fruits. This sets the stage for an elegantly styled Malbec with ample spicy fruit, good depth, and a medium-long, seamless finish. Drink this tasty effort over the next 6-8 years.
90 Points Wine Advocate,12/11

Spiced berry and cassis are the lead aromas on this medium-bodied, zippy Malbec. In the mouth, this shows mostly fresh acidity, red-fruit zest and snap. Flavors of loamy berry, baked plum and earth run dry, while the finish is compact in feel, light in weight and overall seems clean and fresh.”
89 Points Wine Enthusiast; 7/14

This has lots of ripe plum and cassis fruit, with oak and minerals.  There is good body and just mildly noticeable tannins.  The only disappointment was that it has a mild oiliness, like black olives on the finish.

Tua Rita Perlato del Bosco IGT 2012

$19.99
Tuscany, Italy
PLCB Code# 78111

The 2012 Perlato del Bosco is Sangiovese from the sun drenched strip of land near the sea in Coastal Tuscany. This is a lovely wine with a savory and sophisticated take on Tuscany’s most important red grape variety. You get an immediate sense of the depth and the generosity inherent to Sangiovese. The mouthfeel exhibits soft tannins, snappy acidity and a full palate of bright red berry flavors. The cherry and cassis definition is especially evident in this warm vintage expression. -ML
92 Points Wine Advocate 9/15

Features a blast of cherry, raspberry and plum flavors, allied to a round, juicy frame. The tannins show on the finish, but there is much to like about this red. Fine length. Sangiovese. Best from 2016 through 2022. –BS
90 Points Wine Spectator 5/15

Made entirely with Sangiovese, this offers aromas of blue flowers and wild berries. The firm palate delivers black cherry, black raspberry, white pepper and clove while a note of orange zest lifts up the finish. Firm, fine-grained tannins deftly support the juicy flavors. Drink 2016–2020.”
93 Points Wine Enthusiast 8/15

Dark berry aromas.  Ripe plum black raspberry fruit with pepper and tobacco upon a firm backbone of tannin and balancing acidity  This is much bigger than a typical Sangiovese-more like a Brunello.  A good value
