The 2009 Carmine Monastrell (100%) spent 6 months in new oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it sports a nose of smoke, mocha, brier, underbrush, blueberry, and blackberry. Sweetly-fruited, ripe, and well-balanced, this lengthy effort will offer optimum drinking through 2019.

Opaque ruby. Powerful, oak-spiced aromas of cherry-cola, blueberry and vanilla, with notes of roasted plum and licorice adding complexity. Broad and fleshy on the palate, offering lush black and blue fruit flavors and a note of mocha. The blueberry note carries through on the finish, which features mounting tannins and very good length.

There is lots of ripe blackberry and plum fruit with above average body, medium tannins and acid on the well balanced finish.  It is not very complex but is nice big fruity dry wine. A good value. Tasted with Cindy.
