Altovinum Evodia 2013

Calatayud, Spain
PLCB Code# 43553

A custom cuvee from Eric Solomon, Altovinum’s 2013 Evodia is made from 100% old vine Grenache (some of it 100 years old), planted at 850- to 950-meter elevations in pure slate soils. It is a lovely, elegant, feminine-styled Grenache displaying notes of strawberries, cherries, spring flowers and loamy soil undertones in a medium-bodied, refreshing, pure format. Drink it over the next 1-2 years.

The 2011 Altovinum Evodia Old Vines Garnacha begins with a lovely aroma featuring rich blackberry and blueberry fruit, cola, spice, licorice and pepper. Tasting this smooth and delicious wine reveals a ton of savory fruit and nice spice. It is also loaded with great mineral notes, more so than the previous couple of vintages. Just as in the past, the finish is long and spicy. My first thought after tasting this new vintage was simply that this wine is money as it once again drinks like a whole lot more than $8.

Mild aromas of black cherry and briar.  A moderate amount of ripe cherry and blueberry fruit with medium body and soft tannins.  This is a very drinkable wine and a great value.
